Critical Dew Point Transmitters Moisture measurements in Medical Gases

The amount of moisture and other impurities in medical air or gases can be critically important to patient care.  Gasses need to be clean and sterile to the levels recently updated by the Health Technical Memorandum* (HTM02) in the UK.  Contaminants include, amongst others, carbon monoxide and dioxide, oxides of nitrogen, oil and water vapour.

Any or all of these measurements can optionally be produced, to a high degree of accuracy, with the latest Versaperm Permeability meter.

Not only can impurities be dangerous in their own right but condensing water vapour, in particular, can create extra problems, there are two key concerns. First is condensation, which could produce corrosion in the gas system and damage the functioning of the equipment.  It could also enable harmful bacteria to grow actually within the equipment.

The recommended maximum allowable moisture concentration is 67 parts per million by volume. (-45 °C dew point).

Versaperm’s equipment is easy to use, requiring, at most, minimal training, yet it offers high precision and repeatability.  It is accurate in the Parts Per Million (PPM) range for many materials and gases, sometimes PPB.  It can optionally be configured to measure permeability under an extremely wide range of conditions and for most gases.  These include hydrocarbons, solvents, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, helium and water vapour.

* The relevant legislation across the EU is the 2002 European Pharmacopoeia legislation, published by the European Department for the Quality of Medicines in Strasbourg.
